The pray fishing festival is a cutural and spititual holiday of traditional fishermen in my hometown_ Quang Van village, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province. In the spring of each new year, fishermen in my hometown celebrate this festival to pray for a lucky year. They wish they will have convenient voyages and catch many fish. The festival includes 3 main parts: the preparation, the ceremony and the assembly witth the participation of numerous organizations and people.
Firstly, the time of preparation, all fishermen will prepare altars that are decorated very solemn and magnificent. An altar is a wood table which is placed many offering foods such as roasting turkey, a disk of boilded meat, a bow of rice, a bottle of alcohol and a tray of fruits. On the boats of fishermen, there are many lights and candles that are very bright. All fishermen sit together on the beach, talk, sing, clap, drink; the women baked a big pig, make cakes; the children play, run around; the scene is very warm and joyful. The situation is like a first day of new year which is really jubilant, gleeful.
Secondly, the ceremony which is the most important part; during this time, the chief who is on behalf of the villagers will give a speech pray, and start a first voyage. At the midnight of the second day, each villager will wear a typical dress and walk in procession from the villager to the sea. As soon as they arrive, the chief will knee down in front of the sea and pray; some people will beat drum, gong; the rest will stand silent and meditate. This ceremony will last at least 2 hours. Until the dawn next day, all boat begin first voyage; this action is just like a play, peolpe sail their boat far from the beach about 10 miles and come back. The ceremony expresses the respect of fishermen to " Ocean Mother" and God; fishermen wish they will get safe and sound voyages, they can catch large number of fish.
Finally, the Assembly is the most noisy part because almost atvities are held this time. There are many special activities in this assembly: sailing, swimming, tug...Young men will be mobilized and devided into three teams.Three teams will take part in these activities, he team which win will get a value present_ a large boat.Women sing and dance happily around a fire.All people will drink alcohol until they get drunk and sleep soundly on sand; when they get up the assemble will end. This assemly is a good change for everybody to love, help and combine with each others so that our hometown become a cultural villager, all people will lead a good life.
